The Stritz resides along the east side of Welch Avenue, just south of Ames’ Campustown District. The client desired to replace five contiguous lots of old housing stock with a legacy structure for his family’s future. The Prairie Style informed the design for the building along with the long site. Long overhangs, planter walls, and a striated brick pattern visually lower the building and provide a human scale along a corridor heavily trafficked by pedestrians. The Stritz comprises 28 units, with the center composed of unique two-story units that the owner can transform to provide flexible leasing opportunities.
